Roswell, NM (April 6, 2021) – Authorities say that a 17-year-old driver and a 12-year-old passenger were killed during a car crash that took place in the area of Roswell. The fatal accident was reported at the intersection of New Mexico State Route 2 and Crockett Road on Sunday afternoon, April 4th.
According to local law enforcement, the driver of a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada SUV, identified only as a 33-year-old man from Roswell, was attempting to pass another vehicle at the intersection around 2:30 p.m. The SUV then struck a 2009 Ford Focus head-on. The impact of the collision caused the Focus to catch fire immediately after the crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene where they pronounced both the driver and sole passenger, a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old, deceased. The driver of the SUV was hospitalized in unspecified condition.
Officials say that the driver of the SUV was intoxicated at the time of the crash and charges are pending but the incident remains under investigation.
