Rumney, NH (March 13, 2025) – A tragic house fire early Thursday morning on Main St in Rumney resulted in one fatality, according to the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firefighters responded to the home around 2:25 a.m., but intense fire conditions forced them to retreat before they could complete a search. Crews worked for several hours to contain the blaze, officially bringing it under control at 5:09 a.m.
Once the fire was extinguished, responders located one deceased individual inside the home. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.
Multiple fire departments from surrounding areas assisted in the response, including crews from Wentworth, Plymouth, Campton-Thornton, Ashland, New Hampton, Hebron, Canaan, Haverhill, Holderness, Waterville Valley, Center Harbor, Bridgewater, and Bristol. The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and Rumney Fire Department are actively investigating the cause of the fire.
