Sources say that the accident took place at about 7:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 just outside of Rye.

New York State Police investigating the collision were able to determine that ongoing construction work had caused part of the interstate to flood and then turn to ice in New York winter.

Pile-Up Accidents in Rye

2.20 Rye, NY - Two Hospitalized Following 19-Car Pile-Up on I-95

Rear-end accidents happen whenever the front end of one vehicle crashes into the rear of another. These collisions are one of the most frequent kinds of accidents. Regardless of whether it is a minor two-car fender-bender or a high-speed collision involving multiple vehicles, the potential for critical injuries that cause long-term disabilities and chronic pain is extremely high.

The seriousness of the injuries caused by a New York rear-end accident is based largely on the size and speed of the vehicles involved, the efficiency of the vehicle’s safety features, and whether the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seatbelts. Drivers in the striking vehicles oftentimes sustain traumatic brain or head injuries, and occupants in front vehicles are vulnerable to soft tissue damage, back and neck injuries. Rear-end collisions can even cause paralysis due to the serious damage done to the victim’s spinal cord and neck.

Being seriously injured in an accident of any kind can be a very disruptive, frightening, confusing, and overwhelming time in a person’s life. Make sure that if you are injured in an accident that was not your fault that you don’t have to fight the insurance companies on your own. You need a skilled injury attorney to be your advocate when handling the insurance companies to ensure that you receive the full and fair compensation you are entitled to for your New York injury accident.
