Saline County, MO (May 8, 2025) – Three men were injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash along westbound I-70 when a commercial truck struck a parked sedan on the highway shoulder. The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. near mile marker 75.4 and was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Troop A.
According to crash reports, a 2025 International MV607, driven by a 42-year-old man from Linn Valley, KS, was traveling westbound when it veered off the right shoulder and collided with a stationary 2018 Chrysler 300. The Chrysler, occupied by three adult males, was stopped on the shoulder at the time of impact.
The collision caused total damage to the Chrysler, which was towed from the scene by Diehm’s. All three occupants—two 21-year-old men from Kansas City and Charleston, MO, and a 23-year-old man also from Charleston—suffered injuries. None of the men were wearing safety restraints. They were transported by Sweet Springs EMS to Fitzgibbon Hospital for treatment.
The truck driver sustained no reported injuries and secured the vehicle roadside following the incident. Authorities have not yet disclosed why the commercial truck left the roadway, and the incident remains under investigation with assistance from TPR S.J. Crosson.
Our thoughts are with the injured men, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Shoulder Collisions on Missouri Highways
Tuesday’s crash in Saline County illustrates the serious dangers posed by vehicles veering off Missouri highways and onto the shoulder. While the shoulder is intended for emergencies or breakdowns, it is not immune to risk, especially when fast-moving traffic or large commercial vehicles are involved.
In this incident, a stopped sedan on I-70’s shoulder was struck by a commercial truck, resulting in injuries to three unrestrained occupants. While the injuries were described as minor, the lack of seatbelt use and the force of impact emphasize how critical safety precautions are, even when a vehicle is not moving.
Crashes involving commercial vehicles also tend to carry greater consequences due to the size and weight of trucks like the International MV607. These collisions frequently lead to legal complexity, particularly under Missouri’s at-fault insurance laws. Victims of such incidents may be eligible for compensation through the trucking company’s insurer, but timely documentation and legal guidance are often necessary to ensure full recovery of damages.
Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to advise drivers to pull as far off the road as safely possible in the event of an emergency, and to remain alert to surrounding traffic. Truck drivers and commercial operators are held to high safety standards, including hours-of-service limits and mandatory maintenance checks designed to prevent fatigue and equipment failure.
