Saline, MO – Fatal Crash on I-70 WB Involves Ejection and Collision

Saline, MO (November 20, 2023) – A tragic incident on I-70 Westbound at the 74.6 mile marker claimed the life of a young man on Sunday, November 19. At approximately 6:45 PM, Michael P. Stephenson, 19, from Platte City, MO, was fatally injured.

Stephenson’s 2008 Ford F250 veered off the right side of the road, striking a guardrail. He was ejected into the roadway and subsequently hit by a 2024 Freightliner, driven by Brandon J. Lathrop, 22, from Oro Valley, AZ. Stephenson was pronounced deceased at the scene by Saline County Coroner Willie Harlow.

This crash marks Troop A’s 74th fatal crash and 82nd fatality for 2023. The investigation is ongoing.
