San Antonio, TX (November 28, 2023) – A tragic house fire claimed the life of a man on Tuesday night in South Side, San Antonio. The San Antonio Fire Department responded to the emergency call around 6:30 p.m. at the 1100 block of West Hutchins Place. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames engulfing the middle and rear sections of the house. Despite family members suspecting someone was trapped inside, fire crews discovered a man, estimated to be in his late 20s, inside the burning home.
The man was extracted from the house but was declared deceased shortly after that. Firefighters battled the blaze, which intensified after part of the roof collapsed but eventually brought it under control. Arson investigators are on site, though the fire’s cause remains undetermined. It is unclear if the house had functioning smoke detectors. The battalion chief indicated that internal heat sources were unlikely to have started the fire. Investigations into this devastating incident are continuing.
