Interchange Accidents in the Bay Area
Freeway interchanges, like the connection between SR-85 and SR-17 in San Jose, are frequently the site of vehicle collisions due to their complex design and high traffic volume. Sudden lane changes, merging confusion, and speed differentials often contribute to rear-end or sideswipe crashes in these areas.
Tuesday’s collision, involving a van and SUV in the center divider and live lanes, highlights the chaos that can result in even seemingly minor traffic disruptions. These types of incidents often cause chain reactions, injuries, and major slowdowns during peak hours.
For victims, the aftermath may include physical injuries, emotional trauma, and financial burdens ranging from medical expenses to time lost from work. Navigating recovery can be difficult without clear guidance or proper support systems in place.
State and local transportation agencies continue to implement safety measures near high-risk interchange zones—including updated signage, better lighting, and lane visibility improvements—but individual vigilance remains crucial.
