San Onofre, CA (January 5, 2025) – Emergency responders were called to a multi-vehicle collision with injuries on I-5 Northbound near the San Onofre Nuclear Plant. The crash, reported at approximately 5:11 PM, involved at least three vehicles, including a dark gray Tesla Model Y, a gray Ram 1500, and a black sedan.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision caused airbags to deploy in the Tesla, and initial reports suggested the possibility of individuals being trapped. However, responders later confirmed that there were no trapped occupants. The crash resulted in significant disruptions, with three lanes blocked and vehicles immobilized, including the Tesla positioned sideways in the #2 lane.
Camp Pendleton and towing services from Angelo’s were notified to assist with the scene. Multiple tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the roadway. The incident caused extensive delays for drivers in the area as emergency crews worked to manage traffic and provide medical care to those injured.
