Seneca Falls, NY (November 06, 2022) – A man who jumped from a second-floor window with an infant in his arms in an attempt to escape a house fire on Friday, November 4th sustained serious burn injuries. The child was unharmed.
Local officers said that the fire in the 20th block of Clinton Street was reported to Seneca County police at about 1:45 a.m. First responders to the scene along with Seneca Falls firefighters witnessed smoke and flames coming out of the front of the residence.
Officials said a man and a 6-month-old girl were the only people inside the house when the fire broke out. The man was able to rescue the baby and escape through a window on the second floor. The man was transported by a LifeNet helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. He is currently undergoing treatment for extensive burns.
The child was taken by paramedics to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for an evaluation.
Police have not released the identities of the victims.
