Smith County, TX (October 13, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred on Friday, resulting in the ejection of one individual from a vehicle and confirming one fatality due to injuries sustained in the crash. The incident took place on State Highway 64, prompting authorities to shut down the highway in both directions from County Road 220 to County Road 289.
The accident was first reported at approximately 4:18 p.m., and as of 5:40 p.m., traffic remained blocked while emergency responders worked at the scene. According to Smith County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Larry Christian, the collision involved a truck and a car.
Emergency responders, including UT Health East Texas EMS, the Chapel Hill Fire Department, and the Arp Fire Department, were dispatched to assist at the scene. While one person has tragically lost their life, the identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
