South Ozone Park, NY (December 12, 2020) – One person died after a small fender bender in South Ozone Park after a driver supposedly under the influence crashed into the small accident site on the Belt Parkway on Wednesday, December 9th.

Police reports state that, at about 12:45 a.m., 63-year-old Taher Ali Hassan was traveling westbound along the Belt Parkway near 131st Street when he crashed into the back of a car being driven by a 28-year-old man.

The 28-year-old pulled his vehicle over to the far lefthand lane while Hassan’s vehicle came to a stop in the middle lane. Both drivers exited their vehicles to check for any damage when 34-year-old Jason Bical, collided with Hassan’s car, hitting Hassan as well.

Police arrived on the scene and discovered Hassan unconscious and suffering from obvious head trauma. Emergency medical personnel transported Hassan to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He died the following day.

Bical was arrested after officers suspected he was driving under the influence and he refused to take a breathalyzer test.

The investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Division’s Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing.
