Springfield, IL – Police Confirm Man’s Death After Bicycle Crash at 11th & Ash Sts

Springfield, IL (July 28, 2023) – A biker was fatally injured when he was struck by a car in Springfield on Monday, and officers with the Springfield Police Department have since released additional details in connection with the incident.

Officers with the SPD were called to the intersection of South 11th Street and East Ash Street at around 7:35 p.m. on Monday evening.

The driver involved in the accident was apparently headed south on 11th Street when they struck the cyclist, who was heading east on Ash Street. The bicyclist, a 22-year-old man, was seriously hurt and rushed to an area hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

The traffic accident reconstruction team from the Criminal Investigations Division of the SPD is still looking into the accident. Officers request that anybody with information on this collision contact them immediately.
