St. Charles, MO (July 14, 2023) – A crash late Wednesday night in St. Charles County left a man from Quincy, Illinois, and a teenager injured.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Juan R. Gonzales-Mardiaga, 39, was operating a 2016 Kia Sorento, which was stationary on the right shoulder of eastbound Interstate 70.
The Kia was hit by Angel Caratachea’s eastbound 2018 Nissan Sentra at 11:50 p.m.
Gonzales-Mardiaga and Caratachea sustained serious injuries and were promptly transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by St. Charles County Ambulance.
Additionally, a 13-year-old male passenger from Quincy was taken to Mercy with moderate injuries.
As reported by the patrol, none of the individuals involved were wearing seat belts.
The investigation is still ongoing.
