St. Charles, MO (December 11, 2024) – Emergency responders were quick to the scene of a multi-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 70, just east of Mid Rivers Mall Drive, which occurred at approximately 5:40 PM. The accident involved three vehicles: a 2013 Dodge Dart, a 2016 Jeep Cherokee, and a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The crash occurred after the Dodge Dart, traveling behind the Jeep Cherokee, failed to maintain a proper lookout and struck the rear of the Jeep, pushing it forward into the Chevrolet Trax.
The 25-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet Trax, from St. Peters, MO, sustained injuries and was transported by the Saint Charles County Ambulance District to St. Joseph Hospital-St. Charles for treatment. Fortunately, the other drivers—aged 23 and 24 from Hazelwood and St. Peters, MO—were unharmed and drove their vehicles from the scene.
The crash caused minor damage to all three vehicles, which were driven from the scene or towed. The incident is under investigation by CPL D.L. Bilyeu. We hope for a speedy recovery for the injured driver and send our best wishes to all those involved in the collision.
Vehicle Accidents in Missouri
This multi-vehicle accident on westbound I-70 underscores the dangers of congested traffic and the importance of maintaining a safe following distance. In this case, vehicles 2 and 3 slowed and stopped due to traffic ahead, but the driver of the first vehicle, the Dodge Dart, failed to keep a proper lookout and struck the rear of the Jeep Cherokee. The force of the collision pushed the Jeep forward, causing it to rear-end the Chevrolet Trax.
Rear-end collisions, especially in heavy traffic, are a common occurrence in Missouri. These types of accidents can cause significant disruption, and even minor impacts can lead to injuries, as seen in this incident. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and be prepared to stop or slow down when approaching congested traffic.
Local Accident Reports reminds drivers to always pay attention to traffic conditions, avoid distractions, and ensure that they have enough space between themselves and other vehicles to prevent accidents.
We hope for the quick recovery of the injured driver, and we encourage all motorists to exercise caution when navigating high-traffic areas like I-70.
