St. Francois, MO – Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway Route Y; 1 Fatality, 6 Injured

St. Francois, MO (July 7, 2023) – On Thursday, July 6, 2023, a two-car crash killed one person.

Around noon, a Honda CRV going east on Highway Route Y near Critter Lane Road missed a left turn.

So, it went into the westbound lane and crashed into a Honda Odyssey head-on.

The crash sent the Odyssey off the north side of the road while the CRV went off the south side.

St. Francois County EMS quickly took The CRV driver to Parkland Health Center-Bonne Terre.

He died before 1:30 p.m. because of his injuries.

Wyatt Vangundy, a 26-year-old man from French Village, Missouri, was named as the person who died.

Six people from Barnhart were injured in different ways while they were in the Odyssey.

Three children suffered minor injuries, including a 7-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy.

A 14-year-old boy was also seriously injured, while a 47-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman were moderately and seriously injured.

A 73-year-old man sustained minor injuries.

Regrettably, the vehicles part of the crash were deemed irreparable and will be considered total losses.
