Staten Island, NY (May 26, 2020) – On Monday morning, May 25th, a boat just off Staten Island caught fire with five people aboard. The incident was reported in the middle of Raritan Bay during the late morning hours of Memorial Day, according to authorities.
Officials with the Fire Department of New York Marine Units stated that a 23-foot pro-line boat caught fire, forcing all five occupants to jump into the water. A nearby good Samaritan boat was able to rescue the victims as emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
The FDNY said that three people were transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze with unspecified injuries. The other two victims received treatment at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
