Stoddard County, MO (May 13, 2025) – Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle collision that occurred early Monday morning at the intersection of Missouri Route 25 and Aquilla. The crash was reported at approximately 4:43 a.m. and is being investigated by Sergeant R.D. Owens of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The vehicles involved included a 2014 Nissan Rogue driven by a 23-year-old man from Perkins and a 2019 Kia Soul operated by a 31-year-old man from Maryland Heights. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the impact and had to be towed from the scene, one by D&L Wrecker and the other by Advance Auto.
Despite the significant damage, both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and only suffered injuries. Emergency medical services responded promptly and transported both men to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
The specific cause of the crash has not yet been released. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine contributing factors such as visibility, speed, or potential failure to yield.
We wish both drivers a full and speedy recovery and are grateful that the injuries were not more severe.
Early Morning Collisions and Rural Roadway Safety in Missouri
Crashes during early morning hours, such as the one that occurred Monday on MO-25 at Aquilla, are often influenced by low visibility, reduced alertness, and minimal traffic presence. These factors can increase the risk of high-impact collisions, especially at intersections in rural areas.
MO-25 serves as a key connector through southeastern Missouri, and while traffic volume may be lighter in the early hours, the combination of intersecting roads, limited lighting, and fast-moving vehicles can make such intersections particularly hazardous. The collision between a Nissan Rogue and a Kia Soul at this location highlights the dangers present even when both drivers are restrained and traveling lawfully.
Fortunately, in this case, both individuals were secured by seat belts, which likely minimized the severity of their injuries despite the extensive vehicle damage. Quick response from EMS also played a vital role in ensuring timely medical care.
For rural Missouri drivers, it’s essential to approach intersections, especially those without traffic signals, with caution, even during periods of low traffic. Ensuring clear lines of sight, reducing speed, and preparing to yield are key defensive driving strategies.
For those involved in a crash, the immediate aftermath can include medical recovery, insurance claims, and the stress of vehicle loss. Understanding your rights and accessing the appropriate support can make a significant difference during the recovery process.
