Tampa, FL (November 20, 2023) – A wrong-way collision on I-75 in Hillsborough County early Sunday, November 19, resulted in serious injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the incident involving three vehicles.
At 3:42 a.m., a 21-year-old man from Wesley Chapel, driving a Lexus IS, headed north in the southbound lanes of I-75, south of SR-56. He collided head-on with a Chevrolet Colorado, which subsequently caught fire. The Lexus then hit a Hyundai Santa Fe before stopping.
The wrong-way driver and the 37-year-old Colorado driver, also from Wesley Chapel, sustained serious injuries. The Hyundai driver, a 36-year-old woman from Zephyrhills, was unharmed. Troopers are investigating the Lexus driver’s actions before the crash, including possible impairment.
