Tampa, FL – Injuries Reported in Hit-and-Run Crash on I-4 WB at MM 7

Tampa, FL (April 21, 2025) – A hit-and-run crash with reported injuries took place Monday afternoon on westbound Interstate 4 near mile marker 7, according to information from the Florida Highway Patrol’s live traffic feed. The incident was dispatched at 4:11 p.m., and emergency crews arrived on scene by 4:28 p.m.

While the roadway was eventually cleared, the crash left at least one individual injured. The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene before authorities arrived. Specific details regarding the condition of the injured party or the number of vehicles involved have not yet been made public.

The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating and working to identify the hit-and-run suspect. As of now, no additional information about the fleeing vehicle or suspect has been released.

Motorists in the area experienced temporary delays, but the road was declared clear shortly after the incident. Authorities are encouraging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the fleeing driver to come forward.

Hit-and-Run Crashes on Florida Interstates

Hit-and-run accidents on major highways like I-4 are especially dangerous due to high speeds, dense traffic, and the complexity of emergency response in these fast-moving environments. When a driver flees after causing injury, they not only violate the law but also put victims at greater risk by delaying immediate aid and complicating liability processes.

Florida ranks among the top states for hit-and-run crashes, and many of these incidents occur on heavily traveled corridors like I-4 in Tampa. Victims of such collisions often face both physical trauma and financial uncertainty—especially when the at-fault party remains unidentified.

Under Florida law, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury is a felony offense. If caught, perpetrators face severe legal consequences, including jail time, fines, and license suspension. However, in the meantime, victims may need to rely on uninsured motorist coverage or seek civil remedies with professional assistance.
