Toledo, OH (December 12, 2024) - A Toledo police cruiser was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Wednesday evening in south Toledo. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. between South Byrne Road and Byrneport Drive. According to Toledo police, the crash was triggered when a driver experienced a medical emergency while traveling on South Byrne Road. The driver lost control, veering left of center and colliding with two oncoming vehicles, one of which was a Toledo Police Department (TPD) cruiser.
The driver who suffered the medical emergency was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Both officers in the TPD cruiser were inspected by paramedics at the scene and later taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Thankfully, both officers are expected to miss work but are not facing any serious long-term health concerns.
The police vehicle, which sustained heavy front-end damage, has been taken out of service for repairs. The driver of the third vehicle involved in the crash did not require medical assistance and was unharmed.
