Triangle, NY (October 24, 2020) – At about 5:30 p.m., on Friday, October 23, New York State Police reported to the scene of a fatal car accident in the 3900 block of NY-206 in the town of Triangle.
The initial police investigation showed that 21-year-old Kimberly Burdick, a resident of Whitney Point, was heading westbound along NY-206 and, as she was passing two cars that were also heading westbound, she came upon two motorcycles driving in the opposite direction.
The driver of one motorcycle took evasive action and was able to swerve and lay his bike down. He was taken by Broome Ambulance to Wilson Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second motorcycle, 49-year-old Shane M. Poklemba, a resident of Endwell, collided head-first with Burdick and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Burdick, along with the 2-year-old and infant in her backseat, was unharmed during the incident. All three were evaluated at the crash site by emergency medical personnel from Broome Ambulance.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit also reported to the site. The Triangle Fire Company, the Broome County Sheriff’s Department, and the Department of Transportation all aided at the accident scene.
Alcohol is not thought to have played a role in this accident.
This accident remains under investigation.
