Tulare Co, CA – Three Injured in Accident on Avenue 296 near Rd 152

May 18, 2025

Tulare County, CA (May 18, 2025) – A nighttime collision near Visalia resulted in injuries to three individuals, including a pedestrian, late Friday evening. The crash occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Avenue 296 near Road 152, according to the California Highway Patrol.

First responders, including paramedics, assessed and treated individuals hurt in the crash. The incident involved a pickup truck that was stopped on the roadway when it was struck by an oncoming sedan. A man who had been standing outside the truck at the time of the crash was hit during the impact.

Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. In addition, both occupants of the sedan were also injured and taken to the hospital in unknown condition. Emergency personnel remained at the scene to provide care and secure the area while the investigation was underway.

Law enforcement is continuing to examine the events that led to the crash, including why the pickup truck was stopped and whether visibility or speed played a role in the impact.

Rural Roadway Collision Risks in Tulare County

Roadways like Avenue 296 and Road 152 in Tulare County are typically less illuminated and more isolated, increasing the risk of nighttime collisions. When vehicles are stopped on dark or narrow roads, the chances of being struck—particularly if pedestrians are nearby—rise significantly.

California Highway Patrol reports indicate that rural areas often see a higher percentage of fatal or injury-related collisions involving stopped or disabled vehicles. Limited lighting, higher travel speeds, and delayed visibility are all contributing factors in these types of crashes.

Drivers in rural counties are urged to use hazard lights and reflective devices when stopping on roadways, especially at night. Pedestrians should remain alert and stay as far off the travel lanes as possible.

Authorities continue working on roadway safety enhancements across Tulare County, including improved lighting and signage, but personal vigilance remains the most critical factor in preventing injury crashes on lesser-traveled roads.
