Dayton, OH (May 23, 2026) – Two people were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Main St and Shoup-Mill Rd in Montgomery County.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21. Investigators said a black 2009 Chevrolet Impala traveling north on N Main St collided with a white 2023 Kia Seltos and then a yellow 2015 Ford van as each vehicle was turning left from southbound N Main St onto Shoup-Mill Rd.
After the initial impacts, the Impala continued north on Main St, rotated, and left the roadway. It struck two utility poles before bouncing off a second pole, resulting in the driver being ejected. The vehicle then came to rest after striking a black 2008 Kia Sorento.
The drivers of the Impala and the Kia Seltos were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. No additional injuries were reported.
Investigators continue to review the sequence of events leading to the multi-vehicle collision in Dayton. Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover.
Why Multi-Impact Intersection Crashes Can Be Severe
Crashes involving multiple vehicles at intersections can escalate quickly when traffic movements overlap, especially during simultaneous turning maneuvers. A single impact may cause a chain reaction as vehicles continue moving through intersecting paths.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway after initial contact, fixed objects such as utility poles can increase the severity of the crash. Ejection risk also rises significantly when occupants are not properly restrained.
After complex intersection crashes, investigators typically examine signal timing, vehicle paths, and point-of-impact evidence. They may also review roadway layout and driver actions to reconstruct how the sequence of collisions unfolded.
