Union County, OR (September 19, 2023) – On Saturday, September 16, 2023, a Volvo commercial vehicle, driven by Victor Lee Jones, 62, of St. George (UT), crashed on Interstate 84 near milepost 260.

Jones’ Volvo veered off, hit a tree, and caught fire, spreading flames to a nearby barn.

Local fire departments combated the fire, but Jones was declared dead on-site.

The road stayed clear during the investigation.

OSP collaborated with La Grande Fire Department, Island City Rural Fire Department, and ODOT.

The investigation is still ongoing.
