Victorville, CA (March 18, 2025) – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr. was tragically killed in a crash while pursuing a suspect on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
The fatal accident took place at approximately 12:09 p.m. at the intersection of Seneca Road and El Evado Road. Reports indicate that Deputy Cuevas was actively engaged in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle when his patrol unit collided with another car that was making a turn at the intersection.
Cuevas, a dedicated law enforcement officer with six years of service in Victorville, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 23-year-old woman, sustained injuries of unknown severity and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, authorities arrested Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr., 22, of San Bernardino, on charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and evading a peace officer causing death or serious injury.
