Vina, CA (October 16, 2024) – A tragic car accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon on Highway 99 in Tehama County, resulting in the death of a young woman and the arrest of a man on suspicion of driving under the influence. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that at approximately 1:48 p.m., 43-year-old Andre Tucker from Chico was driving his 1997 Ford Expedition southbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.
Authorities stated that Tucker's vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane of Highway 99, colliding with a 2015 Honda Accord. Following the initial impact, the Expedition continued out of control and struck a 2012 Toyota Prius head-on. The driver of the Prius, a 22-year-old woman from Chico, was pronounced dead at the scene, a heartbreaking loss for her family and community.
The 56-year-old female driver of the Honda Accord sustained injuries and was transported to Enloe Health for medical treatment. Meanwhile, Tucker, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was taken into custody and also transported to Enloe Health for treatment. After receiving care, he was booked into the Tehama County Jail.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities suspecting that drugs and/or alcohol may have played a role in the incident. Highway 99 was closed for over two hours as emergency responders worked at the scene, with the roadway reopening to traffic at approximately 4:40 p.m.
