Virginia Beach, VA (March 17, 2023) – A 2-year-old child has died as a result of a pedestrian accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Virginia Beach area.
According to officials, a two-year-old was attempting to cross the street with family members on first Colonial Road at the intersection of Southall Drive. At the same time, 77-year-old Raul Santiago attempted to make a right turn at a red light. As he turned his vehicle, he struck the two-year-old child.
Santiago then fled the scene of the accident.
The young child to severely hurt in the accident. They were rushed to a local hospital, where they passed away from their injuries.
Santiago was later arrested by the police. He faces charges of felony hit and run with injury.
The Virginia Beach Police Department is investigating the crash.
