Virginia Beach, VA (July 31, 2020) – A fatal pedestrian crash took place on a roadway in Virginia Beach last night that took the lives of two individuals.
According to authorities who responded to the call, the crash took place on Independence Boulevard in the 300 block near the intersection with Broad Street just after 9:00 p.m. Two people were fatally struck by a passing vehicle next to the Hyatt Place hotel across the street from the Pembroke mall.
The police conducted a preliminary investigation at the crash site that indicated that the two individuals, a woman and a man who remain unidentified, walked out onto the road and were hit by a car.
Emergency personnel attempted to perform CPR and other life-saving measures on the two injured victims, but the injuries they suffered in the wreck were too severe and they both passed away at the scene of the crash.
According to witnesses present at the scene, the vehicle that struck the two pedestrians was a black Toyota SUV being driven by an unidentified 16-year-old.
Witnesses also stated that the two deceased victims were staff members of the nearby Hyatt Place hotel.
The investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains active at this time and is being investigated by the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Fatal Crash Team.
