Botetourt County, VA (August 1, 2020) – One person is dead after involvement in a fatal truck crash that took place on Interstate 81 this past Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred on I-81 just past mile marker 158. According to Virginia State Police, a 2002 Dodge Ram was headed south on I-81 when for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and struck a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was illegally parked on the shoulder of the roadway.

The Dodge came to a full stop in the left lane of the highway after striking the semi. Another semi, a 2018 Freightliner, then came along and struck the Dodge while it was stopped in the roadway.

According to local news sources, the driver of the Dodge was identified as Michael Lenden Kreul, 30, of Lexington. He was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
