Newport News, VA – 4-Year-Old Injured in Multi-Car Crash on I-64

Newport News, VA (January 10, 2021) – A four-year-old child was critically injured in Newport News in a multi-car crash on I-64 last night, Saturday, January 9. The crash occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. when a vehicle ran out of gas on the interstate. 

Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision that occurred in the vicinity of mile marker 257.2 on I-64, near Oyster Point Road. According to the Virginia State Police, the two-car crash occurred when a 2006 Honda Accord ran out of gas and attempted to change lanes to stall on the right-hand shoulder. 

While the Accord was trying to pull over, it was struck from behind by a 2015 Honda CR-V in the westbound lane. The four-year-old child who was injured has not been identified at this time, and no additional injuries were reported. 

No one else involved in the crash has been identified to the public at this time. Motorists in the area were told to expect potential delays due to the collision. Three westbound travel lanes of I-64 were closed for a period of time following the incident. 

Nothing further has been disclosed concerning the circumstances of the accident.
