Petersburg, VA (July 29, 2020) – A catastrophic car accident took place on an interstate in Petersburg back on Thursday, July 23 that took the lives of three children.
The crash occurred on Interstate 95 at an unspecified time of day on July 23. A Honda CR-V was headed south on the interstate when it was struck from behind by a 2016 Dodge Ram.
According to local law enforcement officials, the force of the impact caused the CR-V to spin out of control and hit a guardrail. The Dodge ram also lost control and flipped onto its roof, landing in the center median.
Two females, aged 9 and 11, were pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by medical professionals. A third child, a 12-year-old female, was rushed to a nearby medical center where she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
The driver of the Honda, Shaketa Denise Williams, suffered minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
No further details have been released regarding the circumstances of the collision as police continue their investigation into why the crash took place.
