Waldorf, MD (October 24, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in three individuals suffering injuries, two of which were severe enough to necessitate air evacuation. The collision took place on October 22, 2024, at approximately 3:33 p.m. at the intersection of St. Charles Parkway and St. Marks Drive.
Initial reports indicate that a Ford pickup truck collided with a Nissan Sentra sedan after the driver of the Sentra failed to yield the right-of-way. The impact was significant, leading to the entrapment of two occupants within the Sentra. Emergency responders, including firefighters, were called to the scene to extricate the trapped individuals.
In response to the severity of the injuries, firefighters established a landing zone nearby for emergency air transport. A 50-year-old male driver, who was experiencing head pain, was airlifted to MedStar Trauma Center by Trooper 2 of the Maryland State Police. Additionally, a 7-year-old female passenger, who sustained facial injuries, was flown to Children’s National Hospital by Eagle 1, a helicopter operated by the US Park Police.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck was treated for minor injuries and transported to UM Charles Regional Medical Center. Fortunately, all reported injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
