Wappingers Falls, NY (March 2, 2021) – A woman was killed in a major two-vehicle accident that also left four others, including two small children, hospitalized on Tuesday afternoon, March 2nd. The fatal crash was reported on New York State Route 9 in the town of Wappingers Falls at around 3:30 p.m.
According to the New York State Police, 48-year-old Loraine Baker, of Poughkeepsie was driving south on NY-9 in a 2017 Honda CRV when she collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer near New Hackensack Road. Emergency responders arrived at the scene where they airlifted Baker to Westchester Medical Center. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The driver of the Trailblazer, identified as 37-year-old Rene Luis Ramirez, of Poughkeepsie, and her three passengers, 23-year-old Nelvis Luis Cruz and two children, ages four and one, were all transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with severe injuries. The one-year-old child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The four-year child and other victims are still in serious condition.
The area was closed down as crews worked at the scene until approximately 7:00 p.m. No further details have been reported as the events that led to this incident remain under investigation.
