Washington County, IN (December 9, 2024) – A fatal crash occurred Monday morning in Washington County, leaving one man dead and another seriously injured. The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. on State Road 56, near Elk Creek Road.
According to Indiana State Police (ISP), 62-year-old James Fox was driving eastbound on State Road 56 when he crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with another vehicle in a near head-on crash. Both vehicles were forced off the roadway by the impact. When emergency responders arrived, Fox was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the other vehicle, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a hospital in Louisville with serious injuries. At this time, their condition remains unknown, and ISP is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
