Wayne, MO (September 14, 2023) – A severe accident occurred on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, on RT Z, 2 miles east of Wappapello.

At 6:45 p.m., a 2003 Ford F150, driven by John J. Kimbrel, 48, ran off the road.

The truck struck a MoDOT sign and a tree, causing significant damage.

Jessica M. Watts, 41, an occupant, sustained moderate injuries and was rushed to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Kimbrel was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital, also with moderate injuries.

The crash damaged a MoDOT chevron sign as well.

The investigation is still ongoing.
