Weaverville, CA (September 14, 2023) – On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, a crash occurred just before 1:00 p.m. on State Route 299 near Fawn Lodge Road.
Joshua Short of Weaverville drove his 2003 Ford F-350 into a construction zone.
Simultaneously, Rebecca Helsley, Nancy Rich, and Nicole Ross had stopped their vehicles there.
Short couldn’t stop in time, hitting Helsley’s 2007 Jeep from behind.
This caused a chain reaction: the Jeep hit Rich’s 2011 Mitsubishi, which struck Ross’ 2021 Chevrolet.
Helsley’s Jeep veered off and hit several trees.
Helsley was severely injured and taken to Mercy Medical Center, Redding.
Rich also received treatment there for minor injuries.
Both Ross and Short were checked and released on-site.
Alcohol and drugs weren’t factors in the crash.
The investigation is still ongoing.
