Westmoreland, NY (October 20, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon when a collision between an SUV and a tractor-trailer resulted in one driver’s death and another’s serious injuries. According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the incident took place on Stone Road at approximately 3:45 p.m. on October 19.
Preliminary reports indicate that 33-year-old Sasha Hulett, a resident of Westmoreland, was driving eastbound on Stone Road when her 2011 Ford Escape crossed the double solid lines and collided with a tractor-trailer operated by 61-year-old Juan Smith from Maryland. The tractor-trailer was towing an empty car trailer at the time of the crash. The collision occurred near the intersection with Peckvile Road, east of the village.
Hulett was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by authorities. Smith sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica for medical treatment. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and Stone Road was closed for several hours following the incident but has since reopened.
