Wichita, KS (October 18, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Thursday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 54 and County Road 17, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old girl. The incident took place around 3:50 p.m. and involved a Chevy 1500 pickup truck and a semi-truck.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Chevy 1500, driven by 15-year-old Emilee Megan Grace Hamilton of Liberal, was making a westbound turn onto the highway when it was struck by the semi-truck. The force of the collision caused both vehicles to come to rest in the north ditch.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but unfortunately, Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene. The 60-year-old driver of the semi-truck, who is from Wichita, was not injured in the crash. Reports indicate that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
