Woodlawn, MD (March 23, 2023) – The Maryland State Police responded to the scene of a major motor vehicle accident that took place in the Woodlawn area on Wednesday afternoon that claimed the lives of multiple people.
At approximately 12:40 p.m. on March 22, a car was traveling on the inner loop of Interstate 695. As the vehicle attempted to switch lanes, it collided with a second vehicle. Authorities believe this caused the first vehicle’s driver to lose control and enter the work zone.
As the vehicle traveled through the work zone, which was located near Security Boulevard, it struck multiple construction workers before overturning.
The driver of the vehicle suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for emergency care. The driver of the first vehicle, an Acura, was identified as 54-year-old Lisa Adrienna Lea. The driver of the second vehicle, a Volkswagen, was identified as 20-year-old Melachi Brown.
Six construction workers were fatally injured as a result of the accident.
At this time, investigations are underway.
We hope Lisa Adrienna Lea recovers quickly.
Our condolences are with the families of all of the victims who lost their lives in this accident.
