Yankton, SD (October 16, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred on the morning of October 15, 2024, resulting in the death of a young girl in Yankton. At approximately 8:20 a.m., local authorities responded to reports of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of E 19th Street and Mulberry Street.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of a Chevy Silverado, a 60-year-old male from Yankton, was reentering the roadway on E 19th Street at a four-way stop. At that moment, a 5-year-old girl was crossing the street and was struck by the truck. Unfortunately, the driver did not see the child in time to avoid the collision. The girl was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
