Lancaster County, NE (November 14, 2025) – A devastating two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 77 and Hallam Road left two people dead and one injured on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m., just south of Lincoln, and prompted a significant response from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and emergency medical teams.
According to Capt. John Vik, the crash involved a northbound Ford F-150 and a westbound Buick that was entering the intersection. The F-150 struck the Buick, causing severe damage and tragically resulting in the death of one Buick occupant at the scene. A second person in the Buick was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the F-150 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims as the investigation remains ongoing.
The crash caused major disruptions on Highway 77 as investigators documented the scene and emergency crews worked to assist those involved. Officials are working to determine the factors that led to the fatal impact, including right-of-way status, speed, and possible distractions.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families affected by this tragic loss, and we wish a full recovery to the surviving driver.
Rural Highway Intersections and Fatal Crash Risks in Nebraska
Tragic incidents like Wednesday’s collision at Highway 77 and Hallam Road bring attention to the dangers of rural intersections in Nebraska. Though these roads often have lower traffic volumes than urban areas, the speeds involved—and the limited sightlines or traffic controls—can turn a single moment of misjudgment into a fatal event.
The intersection where this crash occurred is a known crossing point for rural and through traffic, where vehicles entering from side roads must accurately judge gaps on high-speed highways like Hwy 77. In this case, the Buick’s entry into the intersection placed it in the path of a northbound pickup truck, with devastating consequences.
Two lives lost in a matter of moments is a reminder that rural road safety requires the same vigilance and infrastructure attention as metropolitan areas. Public safety measures—such as additional signage, flashing beacons, or even restricted cross-traffic access—can reduce the likelihood of such collisions in the future.
While the F-150 driver survived, the emotional and physical toll of being involved in a fatal crash can be lasting. For those who lose loved ones in traffic accidents, the aftermath is often marked by grief, questions, and uncertainty about what steps to take next.
