San Diego, CA (January 2, 2026) – A high-speed rollover crash on Interstate 5 near Genesee Ave in La Jolla left two people injured early on Monday morning, including a woman in her twenties who sustained significant back pain.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. when a vehicle reportedly hydroplaned while traveling at freeway speeds. The loss of traction caused the car to overturn, coming to rest in a dangerous position along the highway corridor.
Emergency medical crews, including AMR Medic 235, responded promptly and located two occupants at the scene. Both individuals had exited the overturned vehicle on their own prior to paramedics’ arrival. Despite the vehicle’s condition, including full airbag deployment, there was no indication of external bleeding or loss of consciousness for either party.
The female passenger complained of severe back pain and was stabilized for transport to a local hospital for further evaluation. The second occupant did not report any major injuries but was also assessed by medics out of caution.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, with preliminary reports pointing to hydroplaning due to slick road conditions. No other vehicles were involved, and traffic disruptions were minimal during the early morning hours.
We send our best wishes to those injured in this rollover and hope for a safe and full recovery.
