Oakland, CA (January 4, 2026) – A fatal collision was reported on westbound Interstate 580 near the High St exit in Oakland, prompting an emergency response from California Highway Patrol and medical crews. The crash occurred on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway and resulted in at least one confirmed fatality.
Emergency responders from Oakland Fire and CHP arrived swiftly at the scene following the initial call at approximately 10:59 a.m. According to dispatch audio, officers identified the crash as fatal upon arrival and began securing the area to facilitate an investigation and assist any additional parties involved.
It is currently unclear how many vehicles were involved or what circumstances led to the crash. Traffic along the westbound lanes of I-580 was impacted during the response, as investigators worked to process the scene and document critical evidence.
