Butler, MO (January 4, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision on Highway 67 left one man hospitalized on Saturday afternoon after another vehicle reportedly crossed into his path north of Poplar Bluff.
The crash took place around 12:07 p.m., approximately four miles north of the city, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Investigators say a westbound 2023 Chevrolet Traverse driven by a 63-year-old woman from Qulin crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a southbound 2024 Jeep Wrangler.
The Jeep, driven by a 61-year-old man from Van Buren, sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Barker’s Towing. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was removed by Rushin’s Towing.
Medics transported the male driver to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. Both individuals were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The woman was not listed as injured in the official report.
Investigators are working to determine why the Traverse veered into the opposing lane. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and authorities remained on scene to direct traffic and clear the wreckage.
Our thoughts are with the injured man as he recovers from this crash.
Lane Departure Crashes in Missouri
Cross-over collisions like the one reported Saturday north of Poplar Bluff are among the most serious types of traffic incidents on Missouri’s roadways. These crashes typically occur when a vehicle leaves its designated lane and enters oncoming traffic, often resulting in high-impact, front-end collisions.
In this case, a Chevrolet Traverse reportedly crossed from the westbound side of Hwy 67 and entered the southbound lane, leading to a crash with a Jeep Wrangler. While the precise reason for the lane departure remains under investigation, factors such as distraction, medical emergencies, or mechanical issues can all play a role in this type of accident.
Highway 67 is a major corridor in Butler County and is frequently used for both local and through traffic. The speed limits and volume of traffic make crossover incidents particularly dangerous in this area. Drivers must remain vigilant and in full control of their vehicles to prevent such crashes, especially on stretches of highway without barriers or dividers.
The injured driver in this case was reportedly using his safety device, which likely reduced the severity of his injuries. Nevertheless, being struck by an oncoming vehicle often results in significant physical and emotional trauma, even when safety protocols are followed.
Recovery from a collision like this may involve extended medical care, rehabilitation, and time away from work. It’s important for victims to know that support is available throughout every stage of the recovery process.
