Stuarts Draft, VA (January 4, 2026) – A woman was struck and killed by an SUV Friday night in Stuarts Draft, according to Virginia State Police. The fatal pedestrian crash took place around 10:40 p.m. in the 2300 block of Tinkling Spring Rd.
Troopers responded after receiving reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a 2005 GMC Envoy. The victim, later identified as 40-year-old Crystal S. Gonyier of Stuarts Draft, had been walking westbound along the roadway when she was hit by the SUV, which was traveling in the same direction.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and confirmed that Gonyier died from her injuries. She was pronounced deceased on site. Authorities have not stated whether poor lighting, visibility, or other environmental factors played a role in the collision.
The driver of the SUV, 45-year-old Deana L. McAuley-Cole of North Chesterfield, was not injured in the crash. While no major charges have been filed, police cited McAuley-Cole for driving on a suspended license.
Virginia State Police’s Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the site and is continuing to investigate the incident. No additional information has been released at this time.
