Elizabeth, NJ (January 7, 2026) – A student was injured Monday morning after a vehicle crashed into the auditorium of a local high school in Elizabeth. The incident occurred just after 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Pearl Street and Bridge Street, according to city officials.
Authorities say the driver ran a red light at the intersection, causing the vehicle to jump the curb and crash directly into the school’s auditorium. The crash happened as students were arriving for their first day back following winter break.
One student sustained a minor leg injury in the incident and was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution. The driver of the vehicle also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. No other injuries have been reported.
The impact caused damage to the school building, prompting the closure of Pearl Street to allow for necessary repairs and safety inspections. Officials have not yet confirmed whether any citations or charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
We wish a speedy recovery to the student and driver involved and are grateful that no serious injuries were reported.
