Fresno, CA (January 8, 2026) – A high-impact collision resulted in major injuries on the westbound side of State Route 168 near the Shaw Ave on-ramp on Thursday afternoon. The crash, initially reported as a hit-and-run, involved at least one fleeing vehicle and left another driver seriously hurt.
Reports from the California Highway Patrol indicated that the incident occurred just after 12:10 p.m. when a blue Honda Civic collided with the center divider under circumstances suggesting the vehicles involved may have been racing to access the freeway. A black SUV, believed to be a Chevrolet Suburban, was also reportedly involved but fled the scene before officers arrived.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the Honda lying on the ground outside the vehicle shortly after the crash. Emergency medical services were called to treat the victim, who sustained major injuries. Several bystanders stopped to assist at the scene before first responders took over.
CHP later reclassified the incident as a major injury collision, and Ron’s Towing was requested to recover the disabled vehicle. The second vehicle involved remains unaccounted for, and investigators are pursuing leads to identify the driver.
Authorities are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether street racing contributed to the collision.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we hope for their swift and full recovery.
