Charlotte, NC (January 12, 2026) – A tragic crash on I-485 in north Charlotte claimed the life of one individual on Sunday afternoon, prompting road closures and an extended investigation.
The fatal collision occurred around 4:40 p.m. near exit 26 to Robert Helms Rd. Medic units confirmed that the crash involved a motorcycle and that one person was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, authorities have not confirmed whether the deceased individual was operating the motorcycle or whether another party was involved in the incident.
Emergency crews responded swiftly and worked to secure the area while managing traffic and assisting investigators. Due to the severity of the crash, all lanes of I-485 were shut down for approximately two hours. The North Carolina Department of Transportation confirmed the roadway reopened by 6:44 p.m.
