Johnson Co, MO (January 13, 2026) – A rear-end collision on Monday evening on eastbound US-50 at NE 651 Rd resulted in vehicle damage and injuries to a passenger in one of the involved cars.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. when a Toyota Avalon, driven by a 21-year-old woman from Sedalia, failed to slow in time and struck the rear of a Ford Ranger that had reduced speed for traffic ahead. The impact caused total damage to the Avalon, which had to be towed from the scene by Tip Top Towing. The Ford Ranger, operated by a 74-year-old man from Valley Center, KS, sustained minor damage and was driven away.
A 59-year-old female passenger in the Avalon suffered injuries in the crash. She was wearing a seatbelt and declined medical transport at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Trooper B.S. Lautenschlager of Troop A is leading the investigation, with assistance from Trooper R. Tayloe and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department. Initial findings point to inattentive driving and following too closely as contributing factors.
We hope for a swift recovery for the injured passenger and encourage all motorists to stay alert and maintain safe distances during high-traffic conditions.
