Clatsop County, OR (January 13, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 in Clatsop County resulted in the death of one driver and left two others with minor injuries Saturday afternoon. The collision occurred shortly after 1:45 p.m. near milepost 1, according to the Oregon State Police.
Authorities say 47-year-old Smith Humphreys was behind the wheel of a Subaru Forester heading westbound when he attempted to pass multiple vehicles by entering the eastbound lane. During the maneuver, his vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Rav4 traveling in the opposite direction.
Emergency crews arrived on scene and pronounced Humphreys dead at the site of the crash. The driver and passenger in the Rav4 sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
Traffic was disrupted in the area while first responders cleared the scene and began a full investigation into the cause of the crash. No further details have been released.
